This video features the architecture firm Build LLC, as they discuss the beauty in developing designs through different means: visiting other places, eating good food, meeting new people. It discusses the value in learning from the environment around us and developing one’s own designs based on one’s everyday experiences. They discuss the psychology of our environment and what it means to design interior space for various climates, particularly areas like the North American Northwest were six months out of the year people are indoors because of the cold and rainy seasons. via archdaily.com
As a student of design, you should submit your best renderings to the Inspired Visions Global Rendering & Animation Competition. Designers from anywhere in the world are welcome to participate, and you can enter in one of three categories:
* Rendering with CINEMA 4D
* Animation with CINEMA 4D
* Rendering with Renderworks 2011 (this is part of VectorWorks)
We’ll also award a prize to the “Fan Favorite”—all renderings and animations will be posted on this website and fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite entry.
The winner in each category will receive a $2,500 USD Visa gift card. Winners will be included in an official media announcement and will also be featured on Planet Vectorworks, and on the Nemetschek Vectorworks and MAXON social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
Multiple submissions are allowed, but please note that all submissions must be done in the newest versions of software, and all CINEMA 4D renderings and animations must be built on a Vectorworks model.

Massey Performance Design graduate Emma Ransley has just received Best Costume Design Award at the 2011 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design & Space. This was for her project ‘Inhabiting Dress’ which she initiated in her fourth year. Both Emma and Lauren Skogstad had work selected by PQ to represent NZ in the Extreme Costume section for professional designers. So the fact that Emma gained Best Costume for the PQ as an emerging designer among established practitioners on the world stage is truly remarkable. Spatial Design student Ana McGowan was also presented with first prize in the four-yearly Theatre Architecture Competition held at PQ for architecture students and emerging practitioners. Both students acknowledged Massey University in their thank-you speeches.
Gelatobaby meets Coolhaus from Alissa Walker on Vimeo.
What do you get when you combine equal parts modern architecture, dessert truck + delicious frozen puns? The best-designed ice cream sandwich this side of the Bauhaus. It all came together when I met Natasha and Freya from Coolhaus one night at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Honeyhock House. Er, I mean, Hollyhock House.
Can you come up with a better design pun than that? Name the next Coolhaus flavor and the ladies will make it at Dwell on Design! http://www.dwell.com/articles/dwells-sweetest-contest-ever.html
